FAQ

When does the football/cheerleading season run?

Our season runs from the last week of July (depending on how the New Jersey American Youth Football - Jersey Shore Conference schedule lays out) and lasts until early November, plus playoffs if eligible. Games are usually on Sundays but Saturday evening/night games are a possibility as well. Flag football games are usually played on the same day as tackle football games, while home. Competitive Cheerleading may run into December if eligible. Please keep in mind the fiscal year shall be January 1, to December 31, annually.

 

What is the price to sign my child up for football/cheerleading?

Our prices can be found on our website's 'FORMS' page. Payment plans are available to those in need and are kept strictly confidential.

 

What paperwork is required and when is it due?

All paperwork is due at the Mandatory Parents Meeting which is generally held during the end of June. (More details can be found on our website's 'CALENDAR' page).

 

     If your child is a returning player, you need to bring:

     • A legible photocopy of your child's final report card for the current year.

      Full registration packet which can be printed after registering your child online.

      Parent Participation and Equipment Bond checks, both written out to BYFC for the amount of $150.00 each and post dated 12/1. See our 

       Football/Cheerleading Rules and Regulations for more information.

 

     If your child is a new player or returning player who didn't participate last season, you need to bring:

     • A legible photocopy of your child's final report card for the current year.

      Full registration packet which can be printed after registering your child online.

      Parent Participation and Equipment Bond checks, both written out to BYFC for the amount of $150.00 each and post dated 12/1. See our

      Your child's original birth certificate (a photocopy will be made by the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board during the                                Mandatory Parents Meeting - no photocopies will be accepted unless done by a Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board member)

What equipment am I responsible to provide?

Parents are required to provide the following equipment:

 

     Football:

 

     • Mouthpiece

     • Girdle (pads provided by Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer)

     • Game socks (black)

     • Athletic supporter and cup

     • Football cleats (absolutely no metal)

 

     Cheerleading:

 

     • Practice sneakers

     • Ankle weights

     • Spandex shorts

How are teams assembled?

Teams are assembled by the Football Coordinator as well as the Cheerleading Coordinator with assistance from the President/Executive Board in accordance to the Rules and Regulations set forth by American Youth Football and Cheer Nationals.

How do I get a refund if my child decides not to participate within Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer?

Please contact our Treasurer by visiting our website's 'CONTACT' page. All refunds are handled on a case by case basis.

What do I need to do if my child gets hurt during the season?

   • Notify your child’s Head Coach.

   • Your child's Head Coach will fill out an incident report.

   • The incident report will then be given to a Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board member to be processed. The Insurance               Representative of the organization will then contact you. (If an incident report is not filled out by your child's Head Coach, contact a                     Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board member immediately)

When are the General Membership meetings held?

General Membership meetings are held monthly. There is no meeting in December due to the American Youth Football and Cheer National Championships. More details can be found on our website's 'MEETING DATES' page as well as our website's 'CALENDAR' page.

How can I volunteer my time for Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer?

There are several ways you can volunteer your time to help our organization. We advise you to see a Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board member for more information. In addition, each child’s parent/guardian is required to work five (5) Parent Participation hours in the concession stand in order to receive your Parent Participation check back.

When do Football equipment and Cheerleading uniform hand outs/returns take place?

Equipment/uniform hand outs and returns take place on a different date each year. More details can be found on our website's 'CALENDAR' page.

If it is raining, will the practice/game be cancelled?

As per NJAYF rules, football players and cheerleaders are required to play in the rain as long as it is not thundering or lightning. If thunder or lightning occurs during practice, all participants will move under the park pavilion or into their cars and wait 30 minutes. If by chance within that 30 minutes it thunders or lightnings again, the 30 minutes will start over. If the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board finds it appropriate, practice will be cancelled on the spot. Our Highest Local Authority, the New Jersey American Youth Football - Jersey Shore Conference, has the right to cancel all practices and games at any time due to weather. Please keep in mind absolutely no practices or games can be cancelled by your child's coaches. All cancellations must come directly from the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board.

How will I know if my child's practice/game is cancelled?

The Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board will notify all parents via text message and social media updates. We strongly suggest all parents sign up for our text message notifications and email notifications by visiting our website. Our text message notifications, email notifications, and social media accounts are our primary ways to contact you.

 

What are the official Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer social media accounts?

Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer has three (3) official social media accounts that are constantly monitored and updated by the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board. The social media accounts are:

Can I use the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer name to create my own social media account?

No. Absolutely no use of the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer/Berkeley Eagles name is permitted without prior written approval from the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board.

Do all announcements come from the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board?

Yes. All official announcements will come directly from the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board. If you may have any questions or concerns regarding something that you have heard from a third party, feel free to contact us by visiting our website's 'CONTACT' page.

Am I allowed to create my own merchandise for my child/team?

No. As stated in the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer By-Laws, absolutely no use of the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer/Berkeley Eagles name(s) or logo(s) is permitted without prior written approval from the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board.

How can I view/purchase merchandise?

All official Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer merchandise can be found on our website's 'MERCHANDISE' page.

How are coaches chosen for each team and when are they announced? What qualifications do coaches need to have? I was a coach last season, will I automatically be a coach again?

All coaches are chosen by the Football Coordinator as well as the Cheerleading Coordinator with approval from the President/Executive Board. Coaches are announced towards the beginning of the season and are required to have certifications such as Tackle Safety, Heads Up Concussion, Rutgers, ASEP, CPR, etc. All coaches are background checked annually. Being a coach during any previous season does not guarantee an individual a coaching position again for the upcoming season.

How are the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board members chosen?

The elected Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board positions are chosen by the general membership in accordance to our

By-Laws. All Executive Board members are background checked annually. 

 

     These positions are:

 

     President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Sergeant At Arms.

 

Elections for President, Second Vice President, and Secretary will take place in odd numbered years. Elections for First Vice President, Treasurer, and Sergeant At Arms will take place in even numbered years.

 

All appointed positions of the Berkeley Youth Football and Cheer Executive Board are chosen annually by the President, with the advice and consent of the Executive Board.

 

     These positions are:

 

     Football Coordinator, Equipment Manager, Cheerleading Coordinator, Scholastic Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, League Representative,              Alternate League Representative, and Insurance Representative.

 

Additional appointments can be made by the President as needed, with the advice and consent of the Executive Board.
